Song Association

The title of this post sounds so boring but I couldn't come up with anything better and you know what??? sometimes it is okay not to be fully artistic and expressive on your own and live your emotions through the work of other people.

And I think singers/lyricists/musicians are wayyy up there in helping portray such varied types of emotions that we, the normal people, feel but don't know how to express. Feeling heartbroken or cheated? idk. listen to literally anything from Olivia Rodrigo's Sour album. Feeling in love and all thatttt, listen to 'Lover' by Taylor Swift. Going through some shit? Idk, listen to Liability by Lorde. Feel like dancing? levitate to 'Levitating' by Dua Lipa.

YOU GET THE IDEA.

And It's even better if you understand other languages, you get to experience the emotion of (in my case) a Hindi song, or the high of an upbeat Punjabi/Bollywood song. But then, as they say, music is a universal language...I mean I listen to Black Pink as If I am fluent in Korean when in reality I just scream out the English words and speak gibberish during the Korean part.

But what I find amusing is how we associate with different songs during different phases of our life. Like there are some songs that whenever I listen to them, I think of a memory associated with them, which isn't even that significant but it just is. (!!??)

Like how when I listen to any track off of the Mamma Mia movie, it reminds me of how my sister also loves that movie! Every time I listen to This mashup by Arijit Singh, it reminds me of my school trip because it was the first time I listened to that song, back in 2014 and I asked a friend to share the song with me via Bluetooth!!!! Or how when I first discovered Billie Eilish and I would listen to 'Come out and play 'on repeat and other songs from her first EP while walking from home to college. How I discovered the song 'Baarishien' by Anuv Jain through a friend and then we both would listen to it whenever we would hang out together. Or some songs where you wait for a specific segment to hit (and possibly annoy your friends by playing the entire song to only listen 10 seconds in the latter half of the song), like the infamous part in the 'Kalank Title Track', ifykyk. That random playlist of songs I would listen to while playing Pokemon Go when it became popular. And how Enrique always reminds me of this dancing sheep in the VLC media player when my brother and sister used to play his song over the computer.

Listening to 'Tera Nasha' by Bilz and Kashif reminds me of the time one of my cousins had this song as her ringtone and I just remembered the starting bit only to actually realize what song it is (and how inappropriate it was for me at that age). Listening to any old Miley Cyrus song like 'The Climb' reminds me of the time my grandmom gave me and my siblings an iPod and we had 'Hannah Montana The Movie' in it. And the song 'Electic Love' became my jam while I would travel for my part-time job. The song 'Dynasty' reminds me of Cork, which I think I listened to every day when I lived there for two months. And a random not-so-popular secret song I think about dedicating to a (non-existent) person, who I know just exists out there and just hasn't met me yet.

I am sure I am forgetting a lot of songs and memories right now because there are so many and I have been listening to a lot of music lately, to a point where most of my selfies is just me trying to smile awkwardly or just staring at the camera with my headphones on!!!

But isn't it so amazing how the human brain works? Like I could be going through the worst time but still listening to one of the most upbeat song out there at the moment and then associate that song with this shitty phase of life years later.

This is probably a reallllyyy random post and I am sorry if you felt like you wasted your time reading this but I would love to know what's that random song that reminds you of a random memory?
